Summary

With the current state of the market it has become more difficult than ever to find a job as a junior in tech. Most openings require at least 1 year of experience, and while graduates of bootcamps acquire enough skills to deal with the basics, they often lack experience that matches more closely a traditional work environment (working in teams, reviewing the output, using best practices, etc.). This lack of experience is one of the hurdles new graduates face as employers see the training required to make them productive as a long and costly process.

This project aims to fill that void, giving the opportunity to juniors to work on an app in production (or aiming to release to production) while receiving training and mentoring. Having learnt to cooperate with other developers, acquire the industry’s best practices, receive meaningful review on their work, we believe that they can become profitable for the companies at a much quicker rate and as such their profiles will stand out from the crowd.

The Ask

Individual Contributors

If you would like to join the project as a junior individual contributor (be it developer, QA, designer, or other role) we ask your commitment to contribute to the project with 40 commits (or their equivalent measurement) of work. You get to choose the time-frame for the delivery, though we recommend 3 months.

Mentors

For mentors we ask that they stay for the length of the project, reviewing ICs’ work, providing them direction and concrete suggestions for improvements. We expect the time commitment to be between 5-10 hours each week. At the same time we want to ask them to not do any contributions to the project (save for setting up the necessary infrastructure) as that is going to be the ICs’ responsibility.
